The objective of the visit was to have the trainees examine the areas under
threat and to use the sites as case studies to derive solutions to the Sea
Defence problem.
Areas inspected included Marionville, Amerstort, Marias Pleasure, Meerzorg,
Zeelandia, Rush Brook and Maria Johanna.
There are various types of Sea Defence Structure, which comprise the Sea Defence
of Wakenaam. These include Timber Bulkheads, Earth Dams, Boulder Groynes and
Boulder slopes.
The sites inspected require immediate corrective action and would be an edifying
experience and challenge resolving the problems to us as trainees.
