Introduction
The Training Programme is developed as Learning-by-doing
activities. The Training Programme was launched at the
Opening Workshop for the Guyana Sea Defences
ICB-SZMS project that took place on 21 January 2004. Each of these modules has a
core team consisting of staff from participating organisations.
Training modules
The transfer of
knowledge and expertise is achieved by applying these on specific problems. To
this end, the following target was adopted for the Training Programme: "To
develop a first outline for a Strategy and Master Plan for Sea Defence
Construction and Maintenance for 1 or 2 pilot stretches."
The development of this long-term Strategy and Master Plan
requires 3 capacities:
- Monitoring of the relevant processes and systems.
- Understanding these processes and systems.
- Knowledge about options for human interventions and their impacts on the
processes and systems.
The 6 Training Modules have been defined in direct relation to these
capacities.
An overall planning for these Training Modules is presented below.
Approach for the Trainee Teams
In each of the 6 Training Modules work is carried out by a team of trainees
consisting of staff from Guyana Sea Defences and participating organisations. Each team will appoint
a team leader, prepare a Work Plan and take responsibility for it’s progress.
Findings and results will be presented and will be used as inputs in the other
modules.
Depending on the module, members will range from junior
technical staff to senior staff. The team for Strategy and Master Plan module
consists of leaders of the other modules and senior staff at management level.
International Experts will facilitate and coach the teams, providing guidance,
advice and specific training materials.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee consists of senior executive staff of the participating
institutes. The Committee will approve the approach and methodology for each of the training modules, and endorse and ensure the commitment
and dedication of the staff members of the participating institutions.
