Survey, Modelling, Mapping and GIS Activities

A range of data collection, modelling and data management tasks are being carried out, directly related to the work of the trainee teams. These provide the trainees with hands-on experience and opportunities to find relevant data and the answers to the questions from their team. The following paragraphs provide a summary of these tasks.

In the fields of Surveys and Oceanographic Monitoring:

Survey vessel Blygezight, shortly after its commissioning on 31 th of October 2003 (Michel Ruijter)

Searching the benchmark for geodetic levelling (Keith Chapman)

Tide gauge in Lima (Leslie Lui Hing and Bas Les)

Man-made structures and natural (mangroves) sea defences.

In the fields Modelling, Imagery and Mapping:

  • Modelling of currents, waves and sediment transport
  • Analysis of sediment budget and coastline evolution
  • Satellite imagery and vector mapping
  • Development of a GIS-Database system for organising the collected data.

Coastline at Profit - Belladrum (WCB) in 1950
